Governor deJongh, First Lady host Easter Egg Hunts In celebration of the Easter Season, Governor John P. dejongh, Jr. and First Lady Cecile deJongh, cooperation with the Department of Education, organized Easter Egg Hunts on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John yesterday and today. Activities occurred on St. Thomas at the Cathrineburg Esate, on St. Croix at the Agriculture Fairgrounds, and on St. John at The Battery. Two hunts occurred at each site on both days, for a total of six Easter Egg hunts territory-wide. Children searched for thousands of eggs on each of the three islands and First, Second and Third prizes were awarded to those who found the most eggs. "These events were a wonderful celebration of the community coming together in the spirit of the Easter season with friends and family. It has been a pleasure and a delight to participate in these Easter festivities with the children," said First Lady Cecile deJongh. Superintendent of Schools for St. Thomas and St. John, Lisa Forde, and Acting Insular Superintendent for St. Croix, Jewel Ross Brathwaite, assisted in organizing the events through the Department of Education. All public and private elementary schools throughout the territory were invited to participate. Children were served a light lunch, and the Easter bunny was also on hand to greet and entertain the children who danced the electric slide and spread good cheer amongst the participants. In previous years, the Easter Egg Hunt tradition had been organized through the Office of the Governor. This year was the first time in many years that a First Lady helped to organize the activities for the Easter celebrations for children territory-wide. |
