Government Hill closed to vehicular traffic for a portion of the day on Wednesday Government Hill will be closed to vehicular traffic between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 to facilitate a meeting between Gov. John P. deJongh and a number of federal officials who comprise the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force Executive Council. The HIDTA executives will brief the Chief Executive on drug interdiction operations and other anti-crime initiatives now underway in and around the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Given the scope of the meeting and those involved, a decision was made between the Governor’s Executive Security Unit and Police Commissioner James McCall to limit the flow of traffic around Government House during the meeting on Wednesday,” Government House Communications Director Jean Greaux said. Accommodations will be made for those persons who reside in the area of Government House and those having to conduct business in the area. Police barricades will be established at the foot of Government Hill beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, the meeting between the Governor and the HIDTA council members is not open to the public. |
