Governor deJongh proclaims Energy Education Week in the United States Virgin Islands

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. has proclaimed the week of March 18-24, as “Energy Education Week,” in the United States Virgin Islands. This weeks purpose is to highlight and encourage responsible and efficient use of our precious energy resources.

The Virgin Islands Energy Office is the lead agency in promoting greater energy awareness and education among the people of the Virgin Islands through outreach activities about energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Our territory and nation have grown and prospered through the abundant production and efficient use of energy sources.

The Water and Power Authority is joining forces with the Virgin Islands Energy Office to begin a campaign to educate residents about embracing renewable energy sources and greater energy efficiency. This campaign launches with the intent to reduce ill effects burning fossil fuel has on global climate change.

The chief executive urges schools, churches, civic and other community organizations, and residents of the Virgin Islands to join in this observance and participate in the activities scheduled for this week.
