DLCA no longer inspecting taxis

In accordance with provisions of Act 6839, the Taxicab Division of the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs will no longer conduct vehicle inspections. All inspections of taxi vehicles will be conducted by the Motor Vehicle Bureau before they are registered, according to Acting DLCA Commissioner Grace Fahie.

Fahie said Tuesday Act 6839 became law in June of 2006 by actions of the 26th Legislature when it overrode a gubernatorial veto of the bill. The original legislation was passed in May of last year.

Fahie directed any questions concerning the inspection of taxis to the Motor Vehicle Bureau at 774-5765 on St. Thomas, 776-6262 on St. John and 713-4268 on St. Croix.
