FIRST LADY CONTINUES CAMPAIGNING FOR SENATOR OBAMA, TRAVELS TO PENNSYLVANIA AS A SURROGATE

First Lady Cecile deJongh, Caroline Kennedy and other members of the "Massachusetts Women for Obama"  in Philadelphia to campaign for Senator Barack Obama.

First Lady Cecile deJongh has spent the past week in Pennsylvania campaigning as part of an effort to help Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama in his quest for The White House. This is the third time this year that the First Lady has joined forces with the "Obama for America" campaign in states of contested primaries. The First Lady also campaigned on behalf of Senator Obama in the South Carolina and Massachusetts Democratic primaries and has been active in local campaign efforts.

"It is once again my great pleasure to join the campaign trail in support of Senator Obama. Obama’s message of change and hope is truly resonating throughout the country, and I am proud to rejoin the ‘Obama for America’ New England Steering Committee to talk to voters about the importance of participating in their upcoming state election," deJongh said.

During this campaign stop-over, First Lady Cecile deJongh joined nearly four dozen members of the "Massachusetts Women for Obama" in Philadelphia, including Caroline Kennedy, Margaret Burnham, the first African American woman to serve in the Massachusetts judiciary, and former City Councilor Maura Hennigan. The women campaigned to drum up support for Illinois Senator Barack Obama, including participating in a "National Women for Obama" rally on Saturday, April 12, 2008, that included actress Jessica Lange and others. Also joining the First Lady were Virgin Islanders Sallie Adams, a prominent writer, Chief Negotiator Jessica Gallivan, and her daughter, Kari Currence.

First Lady Cecile deJongh was also a featured speaker at a key fundraiser this past weekend in Philadelphia, as well as at other scheduled Obama campaign events and activities. The First Lady participated in traditional "field" campaign activities to help mobilize voters to go to the polls next Tuesday by participating in door-to-door canvassing and phone banking.

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. and First Lady Cecile deJongh have endorsed Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy for President before the first primary and are committed to helping promote the Senator’s campaign both in the Virgin Islands and throughout the United States.

Pennsylvania is facing its Democratic Primary on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
