FIRST LADY CECILE DEJONGH LAUNCHES WEB SITE; "PASSIONATE ADVOCATE" FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS FEATURED

First Lady Cecile deJongh Monday expressed her pleasure in announcing the launch of her website: www.governordejongh.com/firstlady. Residents interested in learning more about the initiatives of the First Lady are encouraged to visit the site and browse through the information posted at the various links and pages.

"It is my honor as First Lady of the Virgin Islands, along with my husband, Governor deJongh, to provide a voice on some of the important issues facing residents of the Territory. In launching this web site, the special projects, major initiatives, news and press releases, as well as a calendar of events are highlighted for the general public," deJongh said. "It is important that residents and other interested individuals have access to the ongoing work of the First Lady on behalf of all Virgin Islanders," deJongh continued.

The First Lady’s web site includes information on the major initiatives that she continues to diligently promote both in the Territory and abroad. Visitors to the web site can review details of the First Lady’s efforts at establishing the St. Thomas/St. John and St. Croix chapters of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), as well as information regarding the "Camp Shriver" summer programs on both St. Thomas and St. Croix, as well as updates from the Special Olympics which recently took place on St. Croix. The web site also highlights the First Lady’s involvement as Spokesperson for "The Big Read" through the National Endowment for the Arts, the "Tennis in the Parks" (TIP) initiative, as well as a summary of her campaign work in South Carolina, Massachusetts, and in the Territory on behalf of Illinois Senator Barack Obama in his run for The White House.

"I am so proud of the partnerships that have been forged as a result of my work on these projects and initiatives on behalf of Virgin Islands residents. Numerous organizations at both the national and local levels continue to be in contact with my office on these and other issues towards providing service to the Virgin Islanders community. It continues to be my honor and privilege to serve in this capacity," deJongh said.

The web site also makes note of Mrs. deJongh’s efforts to improve the First Lady’s Garden in the historic district of St. Thomas and notes her role in helping to plan and organize a variety of holiday programs and celebrations throughout the year on all three islands including the recent Easter Celebrations on St. Thomas and St. Croix from this past weekend.
