FIRST LADY TO SPEAK AT CARIBBEAN MUSEUM CENTER GRAND OPENING FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 2008 First Lady Cecile deJongh is pleased to announce that she will be attending the upcoming Grand Opening of the Caribbean Museum Center on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at 10 Strand Street & 62 King Street on the waterfront in Frederiksted. After almost five years of construction, the Caribbean Museum Center is holding its Official Grand Opening and will be conducting a tour of the facilities, as well as featuring presentations by members of the community, including First Lady Cecile deJongh. "I am so pleased to be joining the staff, volunteers, and supporters of the Caribbean Museum Center this Friday to help launch its official grand opening. This celebration will pay tribute to the dedicated efforts of museum founder Candia Atwater and will honor the many wonderfully talented artists from the Virgin Islands, greater Caribbean and beyond who are exhibiting their work at the center. In addition, we will be highlighting the special children’s after-school programs that are part of the daily activity at CMC," First Lady Cecile deJongh said. The Caribbean Museum Center first began as a vision of St. Croix resident Candia Atwater in 1992 and was solidified when in 2003, the center moved into the Danish waterfront property as a permanent facility. Since then, the CMC has been a busy epicenter of activity as the only nonprofit museum center in the Virgin Islands. Over the years, the CMC has fostered a broader understanding of Caribbean artistic traditions and likewise provides an avenue for children and other artistically inspired residents to develop their own forms of artistic expression. With links to national and international museums and other partners in the Virgin Islands, the CMC is now recognized as a featured destination for artists, curators, historians, and tourists worldwide. |
