It is with great pleasure that I join the St. Croix Chapter of the American Cancer Society in celebrating its sixth annual Relay for Life. Relay for life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society.
Since its foundation in 1913, the American Cancer Society has been dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health risk by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
In keeping with this theme, the American Cancer Society started the annual Relay for Life, as a means of celebrating the lives of those who battle cancer, those who battled cancer, and remembering those who have lost the battle against cancer; a disease that has taken too many lives. Since its inception, Relay for Life has surpassed expectations, as it currently takes place in 4,800 communities nationwide, including here in the Virgin Islands.
One hundred percent of the money raised from the Relay will be used to assist cancer patients with their transportation to health centers, both here and around the
country, for treatment as well as to cover the costs of cancer patients’ nutritional supplements or medication.
I applaud every team and participant of this year’s Relay for Life for helping with such a worthwhile cause and more importantly for celebrating the live and successes of the of the survivors .
Sincerely,
Cecile deJongh
