First Lady's Initiatives

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) was founded in 1987 in response to the frustration and sense of isolation experienced by parents and their children with AD/HD. Today, CHADD is the nation's leading non-profit organization serving individuals with AD/HD and their families. CHADD has over 16,000 members in 200 local chapters throughout the U.S. Chapters offer support for individuals, parents, teachers, professionals, and others.

First Lady Cecile deJongh has said from the start of her husband’s governorship that she intends to help improve the lives of Virgin Islanders affected by attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD). In September 2007, a major piece of her plan come into place: two CHADD support groups opened on Sept. 26 and 27, 2007, one on St. Croix and the second on St. Thomas. These new support groups join the more than 200 affiliates nationwide.
