First Lady Cecile de Jongh is pleased to announce her attendance at Wednesday’s Child Care Director Orientation and Appreciation Ceremony at the Sugar Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas. Mrs. de Jongh will deliver remarks to approximately one hundred child care provider directors; the ceremony will begin at 9:00 AM and is hosted by the VI Department of Human Services.
During the program, early childhood professionals will discuss ways to improve the quality of services at child care facilities, and the department will recognize providers for their commitment to the children of the Virgin Islands. Key presentations on topics, including school nutrition; early learning guidelines; children’s health and other issues will explore the resources available to assist child care providers in their continued service.
“Through this appreciation effort, we provide a platform for early childhood professionals to network, dialogue and learn about additional ways to assist our youngest citizens and to advance the Territory’s early education and care agenda. I look forward to participating in this important dialogue and commend the child care directors and staff on their dedication to all Virgin Islands children and families,” First Lady de Jongh said.
The First Lady is chairperson of the Governor’s Children and Families Council, an initiative that seeks to streamline services, eliminate duplication, and prepare children to be “healthy and ready to succeed in school.”
A companion event will be held on St. Croix on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the UVI Great Hall at 9:00 AM.
