Governor
de Jongh congratulated newly crowned Miss Virgin Islands Camila Daniels at a meeting at Government House, St. Thomas on Monday. Daniels won the crown on Saturday night at the Reichhold Center for the Arts and will now go on to represent the Virgin Islands at the Miss America Pageant on January 14, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I am pleased to congratulate Miss Daniels on this accomplishment, just two days after her impressive performances at the greatly anticipated pageant held Saturday. She is clearly an extremely bright, talented and motivated individual who will proudly represent the Territory at the upcoming Miss America Pageant. I wish her every success in that competition and applaud her efforts as she begins her reign for this upcoming year while also applying herself in her chosen fields of study at one of the country’s top universities. She is a role model for our youth and a fitting ambassador for the Virgin
Islands.
Daniels is an 18-year old junior at Columbia University’s Barnard College majoring in economics and mathematics. She is also a talented flutist.
