the Virgin Islands.
Governor
John P. de Jongh, Jr. delivers his
2011 State of the Territory Address
before a formal session of the 29th Legislature
on January 24, 2011.
Unlike previous State of the Territory speeches during which Governor deJongh has discussed a wide-ranging review of topics, and laid out where the Territory was headed and how best to get there,
tonight’s address was far more focused and far more direct about the challenges facing all Virgin Islanders.
In his remarks, the Governor discussed some of the very hard truths facing all of our residents, our business community and their employees, and our government workers. He
also laid out the Administration’s plans to ensure recovery for the Territory and called upon all who care deeply about our community and about our future to come together to make our recovery from the Great Recession a reality.
The governor
also used his State of the Territory Address to update the public on his administration’s plans in the areas of education, law enforcement, public safety as well as economic development and healthcare overhaul.
